Marchese Alexander Tacoli
was born in 1956 in Graz (Styria – Austria) to Gherardo
Marchese Tacoli and Marga Baroness Musulin von Gomirije.
In 1973, he started his business career and became
Austria’s youngest and foremost fishmonger.
In 1984, he became CEO of the Guts- und Forstverwaltung
Fridau (estate and forestry management) in Lower
Austria. At that time, the business was engaged in
ordinary wood production, but thanks to Venture
Capital’s great innovation and commitment it became one
of Austria’s biggest Christmas tree producers. The
Christmas trees are being exported as far as Malaysia.
In 2003, the milling machine for processing round wood
added a new branch of production. The main purchasers
are horse owners all over Europe. Soon, this production
turned the business conducted by Tacoli into Austria’s
market leader. The export content is currently at 40%.
In parallel to the other businesses, Tacoli took over
the ancestral estate “Schloss Birkenstein“ together with
its forestry in 1996. In 2004, due to his innovative and
exemplary management, Alexander Tacoli was awarded with
the Austrian State Prize of Outstanding Forestry.
He was co-founder of Intermusica in 2005, which is an
annual music competition of classic and high culture. It
is worldwide the biggest and most highly remunerated
competition of soloists with symphonic brass orchestras.
The final event of this competition takes place in the
temporarily roofed courtyard of Schloss Birkenstein.
The family Tacoli, Italian ancient nobility with its
origin in Reggio nell Emilia, Italy, (Modena, Maranello
and Ferrari are in the close proximity), were first
documentarily mentioned in 986. Since 1096, the family
is continuously traceable. Part of the family left Italy
in 1876 and moved to Schloss Birkenstein in Styria.
Since 1996, Marchese Alexander Tacoli lives at Schloss
Birkenstein together with his wife Hedwig, who comes
from German nobility, and his four sons Ludovico,
Federico, Vincenz and Clemens. His sons are already
engaged in various functions of the AMAT-Group.
